How do educators create discourse?
I believe that educators need to select topics and themes of interest to students to engage them in discussion and provide open-ended questions to expand their thinking during the discussion, and as educators, they have an obligation to encourage and respect each student’s point of view.
What is the role of social media in education?
With the continuous development and improvement of social media, social media provides a platform for professors and students to communicate remotely, and it facilitates the interaction between students and professors, and improves the engagement of students, which are the contributions of social media in the education system. On the other hand, social media provides students with more diverse resources to support their education, and students are free to use social media to improve their collaboration skills. Overall, social media has a positive effect on education.
What are some problems with social media communications in education settings?
There is no doubt that social media contributes to education, but since social media is not a platform specifically for education, there are certain risks that students and professors face when using social media as well. For example, the privacy of professors and students may be violated or interfered with, and not every user of social media has good digital etiquette. These are some of the challenges that exist in social media.
Which social media platforms are beneficial in education?
Based on my personal experience, I believe that YouTube, as the world’s largest video-sharing platform, is a powerful educational aid for students and professors as it provides a wide range of video resources. Microsoft Teams is likewise a highly utilized educational aid, and I used Microsoft Teams for many of my classes during college to complete group assignments and discussions. Google Docs is a site used by almost every student because Google Docs offers users the ability to collaborate and present online. On the other hand, through EDCI 338, I have found Mattermost to be an equally excellent platform. Mattermost has a very minimalist interface design and is very easy to use.
When working with the vulnerable sector, how does social media fit into professionalism and regulations?
When working with vulnerable groups, I believe that the first thing to do is to protect their privacy and security, and not to disclose any personal information about them without their permission. When talking to them, avoid topics that make them feel disrespected or uncomfortable. In general, it is important to have a strict code of conduct when working with vulnerable groups.
