How does social media engage communications?
Instant communication is the most basic feature that social media platforms offer to people. On top of that, people can share their lives and experiences through social media platforms by posting pictures, text or videos. And your posts are not geographically limited people from other countries or cultures can’t communicate with you. This is in my opinion the most powerful communication feature that social media platforms offer to their users. On the other hand, people can join groups and communities of interest through social media, which provides users with a platform for targeted discussions.
How does social media challenge communications?
I think the challenges faced in social media communication are mainly in the area of privacy and information bias. When users sign up for any social media account they are asked to agree to a series of privacy policies, most people will just click to accept them instead of trying to read the content and regulations, which is equivalent to people signing their names without knowing the content of the contract, however, there is a potential risk of social media platforms leaking personal information about the users in these regulations. Another major challenge is that misinformation and fake news can misdirect the viewer, which in severe cases can cause incalculable harm to a group and society.
Is it inclusive?
I think social media is inclusive, but not fully inclusive, and I don’t think fully inclusive people or things exist in the world. Social media is inclusive in the sense that people’s communication is not limited by time zones or geography, but different cultures and races divide people into different groups on social media, and social media does not limit the use of their platforms by racists or extremists. So I don’t think social media is completely inclusive.
Does your PLN amplify the views of others?
I don’t think my PLN amplifies other people’s views because I see PLN as a platform to share my own views and browse other people’s views, and I will discuss with different people who hold the same views and different views instead of amplifying other people’s views, that’s all.
The policies of employer social media communication expectations.
I think it’s important for employees to show professionalism and respect in any content they post on behalf of the company, and to ensure a high level of privacy for other employees, customers, and any internal company information. Additionally, any form of discriminatory behaviour and shifting of responsibility is prohibited.
What are the benefits of a diverse and inclusive PLN in social media sharing that understands where you are coming from with messaging that impacts the community?
I think a diverse PLN will greatly improve people’s ability to solve problems and efficiency in the face of difficulties because an inclusive PLN will attract more people to brainstorm and provide a lot of suggestions and strategies with specialized expertise.
